It’s the fact that it retracts, not the fact that it’s a backup camera.
A very minor annoyance since the backup camera becomes useless from the dirt/salt buildup during the winter. I just lick my fingertip and wipe the lens clean, but if it retracted it would be awesome.
I suppose eventually this technology will be available with Kia Forte money and not half my house money.

It probably uses a very similar servo to what they use in the lock actuator.

I wonder why more carmakers don’t do this. I know that VW has the camera under the badge, and it flips up when you shift into reverse. Mercedes also does that on the S coupe, or at least the badge that you can flip up like a handle to open the trunk.

I love it on mine too. VW’s backup camera is miles ahead of most manufacturers. Can’t wait til it breaks.

Mercedes new coupes are the same way, well at least the S coupe. It’s one of those things that German manufacturers do that you don’t notice unless you have one. Another feature Mercedes has on their cars that goes under appreciated is the rain channels along the side of the windshield so water doesn’t run down onto the side windows.

That’s my biggest problem - introducing unnecessary complications. It’s a convenience, not a necessity.
